Since its foundation in 1997, Oakham In Bloom has taken on responsibility for more and more of the public spaces in the town.
Together with Oakham Town Council, Oakham Town Partnership, Rutland County Council and many other organisations, schools and businesses, Oakham In Bloom has taken on numerous projects, large and small, from the pretty rose beds on Burley Road to the fantastic roundabout displays.
As well as our own projects, we are keen to support other organisations in floral and environmental projects, such as Southfield School’s vegetable gardens and The Woodland Trust’s Gorse Field Wood, Harris Grove & Ball’s Meadow.

Throughout 2009 Oakham In Bloom planned to develop the centres of the five roundabouts along the bypass - a long term project over 2-3 years.
Oakham In Bloom volunteers already managed the planting of the existing beds on the roundabouts with sustainable planting of low-growing shrubs, roses and grasses, but the new project which has seen more exciting designs.
We’re delighted that two roundabouts have already been completed - Stamford Road, with fabulous rocks from Ketton Quarry, and Burley Road, now home to a stunning Osprey sculpture.
Preparations are underway with Oakham School for a sculpture, designed by one of their students, to be placed on another of the roundabouts.
Aside from the roundabouts, the team work to improve other sections of the bypass - encouraging the planting of trees and wildflowers and adding additional features, such as the Anglian Water boat which has been a landmark for many years and the new RAF bed to be unveiled in summer 2010.
Funding of the roundabouts project has come from local companies via sponsorship and advertising, donations and from arts funding bodies and local authorities. Further fundraising is required to complete the remaining roundabouts.
If you or your organisation would like to be involved in the project - either to propose a design or to support the project through sponsorship, donation or fundraising - please contact Maureen Dodds on 01572 723434.
View more bypass and roundabout photos
